FAQ

I’VE GOT SOME QUESTIONS…

What are the benefits of practicing Pilates?

There are tons of benefits to a consistent Pilates practice! Pilates follows a set of principles which include: concentration, control, center, flow, precision, and breath (to name a few).

With your practice, you may improve your posture, increase mobility/flexibility, build muscular strength, improve balance, boost your mood, manage stress, increase energy and improve circulation. Pilates is also an excellent movement practice for injury prevention and injury rehabilitation making it one of the most approachable and adaptable forms of exercise out there!

I’m brand new to Pilates. I’m nervous, what if I don’t know any of the exercises?

Your body is unique and it moves that way. Pilates is really just about learning to move well, build strength, and increase mobility. You do not have to already be an expert to try!

But what if I don’t like it?

Start by showing up and keeping an open mind. How can you dislike something you’ve never tried? You can learn a lot about yourself during a Pilates session. Give yourself the opportunity to show up, listen to your body, and grow.

Ok, you’ve convinced me. But I injured myself recently and I’m worried about making it worse. Is it safe for me?

As long as you’re cleared to exercise by your doctor, the short answer is yes! If you have specific concerns about an old injury or a current one, our advice is to take a few one on one sessions so your instructor can guide you at a pace that’s appropriate for you. We will help you build strength and confidence in your body, you’ll just have to be patient with yourself.

I’m not injured but I want more individual attention so that I can track my progress more clearly. I’d really like to deepen my understanding of my moving body. What do you suggest?

We love you and love working with private clients like you! If it’s in your budget, we recommend booking private sessions. We will work together towards your personal goals and help you deepen your movement practice. We’ll use a combination of the Pilates apparatus (reformer, Cadillac, springboard, chair, and some mat work). Every person is unique and we will always customize a session that fits your individual needs.

How do I book a private session?

To book a private session, head to the “book now” tab, choose “book private sessions” and then tap “create account”. We require all clients to create a profile with stored credit card details to hold their appointments. Once you’ve completed your profile, send us an email at info@bodiesandplants.com to coordinate scheduling and from there we will put you into our schedule!

I really prefer to exercise in a group. What are your group classes like?

We love the idea of exercising in a community! We offer traditional group Pilates mat classes, Yoga classes, and of course our fabulous Springboard equipment classes. You can read more about these classes on our class description page. All of our group classes are small and intimate with a maximum of 5 or 6 participants in each class.

How do I book a group class?

If you are booking a group class, we require that you sign up in advance. Sign ups close one hour prior to the start of class. All group class bookings can be done directly through our website by heading to the book now page, finding the class you want to join, and then following the prompts to register. Remember, class sizes are small so it’s best to book several days ahead so you don’t miss your chance to grab a spot. If class is full, you’re welcome to join the waitlist. If a spot becomes available you will be contacted.

Can I bring a friend to class?

Sure! However, you cannot sign up a guest from your account. Each student attending class needs to sign themselves up through their own account. This is so we can have an accurate attendance list and so that each person attending class has agreed to our waiver/class cancellation policies. Creating an account is super easy, just head to the book now tab on our website, choose group classes, tap “book” next to the class you’d like to join, and then follow the prompts to creating an account/registering for class. Or, you can sign up for group classes via the mindbody app.

What are your rates? Do you offer packages or memberships?

You can learn about all of our pricing on our rates page. We offer drop in rates and packages. We offer our virtual classes at a sliding scale rate.

I need to cancel last minute. Will I be charged?

We have a 24 hour cancellation policy so if you are canceling within that 24 hour range before your schedule session, even if you plan to reschedule for another day, we cannot give you a refund or waive the cancellation fee. Our policy is in place to protect our staff and the clients on our waitlist as well as to encourage your commitment to yourself. Our studio is very small with limited space so when you are booking a spot, that means there is one less spot for another client to take. Out of respect for all of our clients and our instructors, we do enforce this policy. All cancellation requests should be sent to info@bodiesandplants.com.

If you are running late for your session, please email us at info@bodiesandplants.com to let us know. Clients who arrive more than 15 minutes late (without notifying us) will be considered a no show.

What’s the deal with the waitlist?

If a group class is full, you’ll see the option to “join waitlist”. If you don’t have a current package with us, you’ll have to purchase a drop in to be on the waitlist. But don’t worry, if you’re not admitted into class you can keep the credit to use for another time or we will refund you. You won’t receive a confirmation email after joining the waitlist. You’ll only be notified if a spot becomes available (be sure to opt in to email communications so you don’t miss the notification). It is absolutely worth joining the waitlist as clients will often cancel last minute. If you’ve joined the waitlist but are no longer available, please remove yourself by logging into your mindbody account or emailing us at info@bodiesandplants.com so that others can have the opportunity to join the list.

I’m expecting! Is Pilates safe for me?

There are tons of benefits to practicing Pilates while pregnant! We do not currently offer a group prenatal class so we recommend booking a private session. Especially once you enter into your second trimester, open level group classes may not be safe for you. In your private session, your instructor will create a session that focuses on safe prenatal exercises. You will safely build strength in your body while improving circulation and healthy range of motion in your joints. Pilates can be helpful in preparing your body for birth and also afterwards! Once cleared from your doctor, we’d love to help you build back strength in your body postpartum.

Do you offer virtual classes?

Sure do! All of our virtual classes are labeled Virtual. You sign up for a virtual class the same way you sign up for an in person class, by heading to the book now link on our website. Please note, the link to join class will be sent to you in your email confirmation immediately upon booking.  You must be signed up for email communication in order to receive the virtual link.
